of a water main break there. chesapea middle school, chesapeake high school and folger mckenzie high school are closed because of that water main break. allther schools will open on time. robbed and assaulted off the campus of university of maryland, college park. it happened yesterday morning at the parking lot of the college park shopping center. megan mcgrath joins us with more on this attack. good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, joe that. shopping center is well lit. surprising. there have been several such robberies that have taken place since school began. six since august. all crimesave occurred in the early morning. they involve several suspects. in some cases they got violent and beat the victims. police are warning students not

to walk alone particularly between 2:00 and4:00 in the morning. the latest happened at 4:30 sunday morning. the victim was walking in the parking lot at the college park shopping ceer, 7300lock baltimore avenue. three suspects jumped the victim from behind. he was assaulted and then robbed. now, the vtim in this most recent case wasot a university of maryland student, although some students have been victims in several other crimes. last week police did make an arrest in o of the robberies, a robbery that occurred in early august. still looking for two accomplices in that crime. despit that arrest, we are still seeing the robberies continuing. again, the most recent happening early sunday morning here in the parkingot of the shopping center. an alert has gone out to students. they're asked to be on guard, not to walk alone in the early morning hours. joe, back to you. >> megan mcgrath reporting live. today police will try to

determine who killed an armed suspect during a shoot-out with police. it happened around 6:00 yesterday morning in the 200 block of market street. police officers approached a man with a rifle following a domestic situation and exchanged gunfire. the man died during the incident. they're still trying to figure out whether the officer killed him or whether the suspect turned the gun on himself. the doctor who was shot during a standoff at johns cop minutes last week is in fair but stable condition. he was shot in the stomach by the son of an olderly patient. paul lost his composure after cohen delivered news of his mother's condition. he shot cohen, killed his mother, and then turned the gun on himself. now to the gulf oil disaster. the oil well has noween sealed permanently with cement. the incident commander admiral thad allen says the well poses no further threat this seal comes five months after an explosion that killed

11 workers and spilled some 206 million gallons of oil into the gulf of mexico. this morning the final cleanup is under way. oil does continue apparently to wash up on to the shores and beaches. down to one play, again, for the redskins. this time they weren't the ones celebrating. the houston texans nailed a field goal to seal a win, 30-27. they thought they had the game won with their on field goal. but texas coach calle a time-out just before that kick. on second try, the kicker missed wide right giving the texans the ball back. and then mike shanahan says it was a disappointing way to lose, but he was happy with the way the teamplayed. >> bottom line is they got it done and we did it. you've got to go back and be pretty tough on yourself. the thing i was pleased with is our football team played hard throughout the game. ust made a few too many mistakes at crucial times. >> the biggest mistake was

letting the texans back into the game. they gave up a 17-point third quarter lead. ouch! a final good-bye to political activist and scholar ron walters. a funeral service will be held at shiloh baptist church in washington. services began at 110 ths morning. memorial service was held yesterday at howard university. dr. walters spent 25 years at howard, but was known to millions around the country for his weekly column on race and politics. jordan and the reverend jesse jackson were among many at the memorial service. he died september 10th after a longbattle with lung cancer. and he appeared many times here on news 4. giving his opinions on politics, incisive, brilliant and wonderful, wonderful person. this morning we have a traffic alert before you head out the door. if you're driving through tyson's corner, you may want to give yourself extra time. a new traffic pattern.

if you're driving through tyson's corner, give yourself extra time. there's a new traffic pattern. tracee wilkins has more on what you need to know before you head out the door. >> reporter: good morning eun. this is the dull let project. now the busiest intersection in tyson's corner is going to be affected. 123 to rote 7 westbound. they have closed that ramp for the next year. here's a look at what your new ramp looks like. drivers who use 123 to route 7, you will now have to access route 7 from this new exit just south of international drive and the marriott courtyard hotel. that's how you will know. it will take you to frontage road and turn right on route 7. if you miss the ramp, continue south on 123, turn right on old courthouse road which intersects in both directions. it's important that you pay close attention to the signage. they'll have officers out here in the morning. it will help to direct traic.

that didn't stop the robbers from attacking early sunday morning. now, there have been a number of similar robberies in the area around the university of maryland. all of them have taken place off campus. in the immediate area surrounding the university of marynd, si such incidents since august 8th. there's a similar pattern with all these crimes. they all happened early in the mornig. self suspects involved. some cases those suspects have become violent. they have beaten the victim. sometimes weapons have been used. it's unclear if there's any connection between these crimes. police are warning students not to walk alone in the early morning hours, particularly after 2:00 in the morning. the latest incident happened at 4:30 in the morning on sunday. police say the victim was walking through the parking lot. three suspects jumped him from behind. he was assaulted and then robbed. now, the victim in the most recent case is not a university of maryland student, although

students have been victims in several other crimes. last week police made an arrest in one robbery that took place in early august. they're still looking for two accomplices in that crime. even with that arrest we are still seeing robberies tking place in the area. so of course students a being asked to be particularly careful not to walk alone in the early morning hours and to report suspicious activity. well have more coming up in the next half hour. eun, back to you. >> see you then. megan mcgrath live in college park. megan, thank you. now to the gulf oil disaster. teams are leaving the area after sealing the deep horizon oil well. jay gray explains what is next from venice, louisiana. >> reporter: it began april 20th with a massive fireball and deadly flames cutting through the night air. as the deepwater horizon rig exploded and collapsed, 11 lives were lost.

and oil began to seep into the gulf, the start of the worst spill in u.s. history. now, 154 days later, government scientists say the final seal, 74 barrels of cement, is holding tight and that the well will never leak again. president obama acknowledged the work that's been done an perhaps the more difficult job that lies ahead in a written statement which says in part, we will continuto work closely with the people of the gulf to rebuild their livelihoods and restore the environment that supportshem. my administration will see our communities, our businesses and our fragile ecosystems through this difficult tim difficulties that continue to wash up along the gulf coast. cleanup teams fight everyday in plaquemines parrish. but it seems right now the oil is winning the battle there. >> we can't fix this on our own. we cat rebuild this on our
